Image BCM3000 Barcode Printing Module

bcm_print_barcodes

The Image BCM3000 Barcode Printing Module is a small, compact unit that plugs in-line between the PC (or other host) and the printer.  The BCM3000 fits neatly to the rear of the printer using Velcro.   The unit plugs into the printer's parallel port and offers parallel and serial interfaces to the host computer, enabling it to be connected to systems ranging from PCs to mainframes.  Power is taken from the printer or from an external transformer unit.   It is capable of attachment to all standard laser, matrix and ink jet printers, the Image BCM3000 then transforms them into powerful barcode and labelling printers.
Normal text and graphics printing is unaffected - the Image BCM3000 simply extends the printer's capabilities to include barcodes, scalable text, line and box drawing.
Using the PCE command language pioneered by Image, programming is simple - a single command generates a complete barcode.  To show how this works, a barcode symbol encoding ABC123 is produced by the command ESCibABC123/, for systems which have difficulty sending control characters like ESC, the BCM3000 offers alternative codes.
The Image BCM3000 comes complete with a Windows based on-screen form designer called   PCE-CAD.  This program enables you to design the required label on-screen and then PCE-CAD generates a file containing all the required PCE commands.  Note that the BCM3000 relies on printers being driven by ASCII (character based) output.  It is therefore not suitable where printers are being driven directly by Windows graphical printer drivers or for Postscript printers.
Because the Image BCM3000 drives all standard laser, matrix and ink jet printers, programs developed for one printer can be used to drive others.  So upgrading for faster output or selecting the most suitable printer for an application requires little or no software revision.
